Hello! I am Sara.
Saru, Saruchi... that is what my close friends and family call me. I was born in a windy little village in the south of Tenerife. I graduated in Illustration at Swansea College of Art, and afterward, I took the MA in Children's Book Illustration at Ars in Fabula.
When I was a little girl I loved books more than anything in the world. I remember sitting on my bed in the evenings and finishing my books in one go. I loved the illustrations by Cicely Mary Barker on my fairy books (I was obsessed with fairies for a very long time and used to investigate to prove that they were real. Sadly, I never found any evidence of it). Up until then, I was sure I wanted to be a writer, or an editor, as I couldn't imagine anything better for me. However, a series of magical books landed in my hands, I was amazed by the colorful and magic illustrations, so I started drawing its characters and, after that, making my own. I discovered that there was something better for me than just writing or reading, it was reading the stories to create a world for them. This is how I slowly entered the world of illustration.
Currently, I am back at my beloved island by the sea, where I bring to life other people's dreams and ideas and develop my own picture book stories, those which little me would have loved to read.

Saru, Saruchi... así es como me llaman mi familia y amigos más cercanos. Crecí en un pequeño pueblo ventoso en el sur de Tenerife. Estudié ilustración en la Universidad de Swansea, Gales y poco después, me trasladé a Italia para cursar el Máster de ilustración editorial de Ars in Fabula.
Cuando era pequeña, me gustaban los libros más que cualquier otra cosa. Recuerdo recibir un libro nuevo a la semana y sentarme en la cama sin poder dejarlo de lado hasta que me lo hubiese terminado. Me encantaban las ilustraciones de hadas de Cicely Mary Barker (en aquella época estaba obsesionada con las hadas e investigaba para demostrar que existieran, tristemente nunca encontré ninguna evidencia de ello). Hasta entonces, tenía claro que quería ser escritora, o editora, ya que no se me ocurría que pudiese haber nada mejor para mi. Pero entonces, una mágica colección de libros cayó en mis manos. Me enamoré de las ilustraciones en sus páginas, de sus detalles y sus colores, así que empecé a dibujar sus personajes y, más tarde a crear los míos propios. Descubrí que había algo incluso mejor para mi que escribir o leer, era leer las historias con el propósito de crear un mundo para ellas. Así es como, poco a poco, entré en el mundo de la ilustración.
Actualmente, resido en mi isla natal desde donde doy vida a los sueños e ideas de otros, mientras desarrollo mis propias historias para libros infantiles. El tipo de historia que a la pequeña Saru le habría gustado descubrir.
